Flare

Madds:

I am a huge fan of Dog Schidt Optiks. The strange optical artifacts and unique flaring gives these lenses character. And most of these artifacts are incredibly hard to replicate in post which makes them just that more interesting. If you look at a video like Richard Gale’s festival of 50mm lenses you get a good sense of what this is all about.

Lens flares? They are kind of the joke in VFX. Never the less they happen. Every lens if different.

Lue for Nuke

Mads first started talking about Lue for Nuke in June of 2015. It sounded and looked really cool. On the 18th of Oct he released it in its current state. I have been playing with it for the past few days and I find it very powerful, like having a merge node with all the math in one node it's nice to have all the image editing math in one node as well.

Thanks Mads.

Work in Progress

Today I submitted a shot that should have been a WIP. I guess my point was to get ideas and direction. I should have said just that. Instead I submitted shot that needed work. It's ok to submit a shot that needs work but you need to state that upon submission.

Problem solving is hard. It's ok to ask for help.

Stickit in Nuke 10?

Mads Hagbarth:

Shortly after releasing the first demo of Stickit, i got a little note from “someone” at “some big company” that TheFoundry had privately demoed something that looks a lot like Stickit but using Ocula tech.

Mr. Hagbarth I have said this to you before, I love your ideas and tools. If you havn't checked out stickit or any of Mads tools you should.

Shortcut Editor

Ben Dickson:

Allows you to quickly bind keyboard shortcuts to existing menu items without writing Python code

So that was easy. Great tool.

LUE – Grading Toolset for NUKE

Mads:

Nuke have some really powerfull build-in grading and color correction tools, perfect for VFX work. But i often find my self a bit frustrated when i do VFX look-dev and temp grades, as these tools are not really build with “Look Grade” in mind, it feels. My main issues with the build-in grade node is that (For grading purposes):

Your F**ked

Robert De Niro:

“You weren’t just following dreams, you were reaching for your destiny. You’re a dancer, a singer, a choreographer, musician, a filmmaker, a writer, a photographer, a director, a producer, an actor, an artist. Yeah, you’re f**ked.”

Any talent that the rest of the world doesn't understand will be met with resistance. That's why we have a saying, "F**k you pay me". It used to be called knowledge work and payed very well because the people who needed that work done hadn't a clue what to ask for. They just wrote the check and were glad when the work was finished. But today everyone thinks they know how this is done. News flash they don't. Mr De Niro is right. One of my hardest jobs is convincing others that I am worth every penny.
