#2.151 - A VFX Vision of the Future | Juan-Luis

Sent From Esher Surrey Posted on blog.jaunluis.com:

Companies setting realistic prices for their work - cutting edge production management technology to track EXACTLY how long people spend on task, matched up with what was BID,

I know a companY that does this. They have bread and butter work to pay the bills. Visual effects are just an after thought. Just saying.

Effects Corner: Visual effects are inexpensive

Scott Squires:

It takes time and people to make these things. Yet they have a huge disconnect when they view visual effects.

I have said this before and Scott nailed it right here. Disconnect. Our biggest problem is getting the people who matter connected to what we do. We have to do this. Hollywood can't even make a non-vfx movie with out us. Even if its just the DI process. Blowing something up is one thing, fixing mistakes, or just helping the director better tell the story is another thing completely.

R&H Design Talent Launch Eevolver | AWN | Animation World Network

The new company, which is already open for business, develops documents, artwork and models that can be handed off to any visual effects facility that's once the project is fully greenlit. R&H will continue to have an art department capable of doing some of the same work but Eevolver expects R&H to be one of its clients, Eevolver executive producer Stacy Burstin reportedly said.

Going small is the only way to win. There is a flip side to that coin. Small palaces cannot do Transformers. The Big places also need thesmall places to pick up the lack.

VES Open Letter - Call To Action | Visual Effects Society

As has become all too apparent over the past few years, and especially in the past few weeks regarding the status of Rhythm & Hues, Digital Domain, DreamWorks, and other visual effects facilities, the future for professionals who work in the visual effects industry – and the entertainment industry at large – in California is in serious jeopardy.

A Day Without A VFX Pro? | VFX Soldier

VFX Soldier:

I’m not endorsing the idea yet. I’m receptive to it. I’d like to hear people’s thoughts on this.

We might have a better chance with the VFX companies than the studios. Sounds like a terrible idea. We still have no idea what we want. First a plan and then action. Never fight angry, you will always lose.

Stu Maschwitz:

Congratulations to the visual effects crew of Life of Pi. I am simply blown away by your work. Your tigers and waves and artistry and technical mastery made me laugh and cry and revel in how wonderful movies can be. I know how hard it is to do what you did, and even though I know exactly how you did it, I have no idea how you pulled it off.

Stu, Awesome job.

An Open Letter to Ang Lee | VFX Soldier

Phillip Broste:

Incidentally, those were the same gorgeous sunsets and vistas that your DP Claudio Miranda took credit for without so much as a word of thanks to those artists.  And the same animated performances that helped win you the best director statue.  Nice of you to mentionthe pool crew, but maybe you could have thanked the guys and gals who turned that pool in to an ocean and put a tiger in to that boat?

Here we go again.
