“Dear VES: “fighting fire with fire” doesn’t mean taking a flamethrower to an already burning building. Since apparently you’re confused.” @DorkmanScott
The tweet says it all. It's almost like the VES doesn't want a vfx union. If we had a union why would we need the VES. The VES could be like ASC. I except more form the VES.
Fxguide:
Jeff Heusser talks to three visual effects industry veterans – Scott Squires, Scott Ross and David Rand – about the recent developments in VFX, from globalization to unionization to subsidies to working conditions to recognition and other on-going issues.

Companies setting realistic prices for their work - cutting edge production management technology to track EXACTLY how long people spend on task, matched up with what was BID,
I know a companY that does this. They have bread and butter work to pay the bills. Visual effects are just an after thought. Just saying.
If you haven't seen this yet.
Another good one is here
Maybe they should tell Mr. Brown about all the companies that don't pay overtime. Isn't that money that California can tax at a higher rate. Please corret me if I am wrong.
Scott Squires:
It takes time and people to make these things. Yet they have a huge disconnect when they view visual effects.
I have said this before and Scott nailed it right here. Disconnect. Our biggest problem is getting the people who matter connected to what we do. We have to do this. Hollywood can't even make a non-vfx movie with out us. Even if its just the DI process. Blowing something up is one thing, fixing mistakes, or just helping the director better tell the story is another thing completely.
The new company, which is already open for business, develops documents, artwork and models that can be handed off to any visual effects facility that's once the project is fully greenlit. R&H will continue to have an art department capable of doing some of the same work but Eevolver expects R&H to be one of its clients, Eevolver executive producer Stacy Burstin reportedly said.
Going small is the only way to win. There is a flip side to that coin. Small palaces cannot do Transformers. The Big places also need thesmall places to pick up the lack.
As has become all too apparent over the past few years, and especially in the past few weeks regarding the status of Rhythm & Hues, Digital Domain, DreamWorks, and other visual effects facilities, the future for professionals who work in the visual effects industry – and the entertainment industry at large – in California is in serious jeopardy.
And guys think California id going to pay up. Not were I would go with this.
Awesome. Tumblr really is a great service.
